Amita Malhotra, aged 41 years young, has lived in Newcastle upon Tyne for 23 years, far from her childhood home of Punjab, India. Her time in the UK has been riddled with turmoil. Her less than amicable divorce left her alone at the age of 23 with her 9 month old son, and blood cancer. Since she has faced the task of bridging her home culture with the British culture, and has suffered a list of severe illnesses, including a broken spine.
Amita spends her better days working with voluntary organisations for the care of cancer patients, trying to give back to the system that gave her life enough to see her son grow up. Parallel to this, she has worked on a book detailing her life under the pen name of 'Prerna', entitled Silent Echoes (pictured).
