about iD on tyne

identity on tyne supports the development of new writing and live literature in the North East, with a spotlight on writers of colour.

We aim to create a platform and audience for literature from diverse cultures.

Founded in 2003, identity on tyne has made a significant impact in the field of literature development. Through twice-yearly seasons of live literature events, creative writing workshops, seminars, discussions, reading groups, and one-to-one surgeries it aims to explore, develop and promote literature in all its forms.

Our aims are met through:
  • identifying and developing new talent through specific programmes of work and training
  • developing the writing economy in the North East through the development of opportunities for writers and the production of literary events
  • developing partnerships through working with local authorities, libraries, private literary organisations
  • developing audiences and new contexts for literature
  • providing information and advice to writers within the region
